I think The Great Gatsby was one of my ultimate favorite books. I’ve read it six or seven times [not the most I’ve ever re-read a book, by any means] and each time it was as though there was something new and more intriguing to discover.
F. Scott Fitzgerald is a little like my ultimate mentor. I always wanted to be able to capture the emptiness inside a person’s spirit as accurately as him. And he has that ability to make you feel everything with such an emphasis on the subtext. He never outright TELLS you anything, it’s all about the feeling his lines give you. You realize that there’s something much sadder and much more tragic about the most trivial conversation/scene. Sigh.
I still haven’t decided how I feel about this movie, even if I love Carey Mulligan. WE SHALL SEE.
